Psychology is the dynamic and scientific study of human behavior and cognition. Psychology is a science because it adheres to the same scientific method as any natural science. Psychology and AP Psychology are both survey courses designed to cover a broad range of topics within the field of psychology.
The structure of both courses, Psych & AP Psych, are "flipped". Flipped classrooms change the dynamics of education. Traditional delivery of the course content (lectures, presentations) is now reserved for "homework". "Homework", the hands-on application of course material, will take place within the learning center. The goal of this method is to place students at the center of their learning. My role as the instructor is to be the "guide on the side" rather than the "sage on the stage". |

Keys to Success in Psychology/AP Psychology
Critical ThinkingBeing citizens of the digital age, we are bombarded with information every moment of the day. It is so important to be discerning of which information is relevant, and which is not. Critical thinking skills, such as reasoning, are crucial to thrive in the digital era. Critical thinking involves answering the questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how.

Mindset: Growth v Fixed"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard" - Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder #35
In order to be successful in this course you must be willing to do one thing and one thing only: give 100% of your effort. Giving 100% of your effort is embracing the growth mindset. A growth mindset recognizes that many people are deficient in natural ability, but are not defeated by this. Those who embrace the growth mindset know that giving maximum effort will make up for any deficiency. |
Embrace DiversityThere are over seven billion (with a "B") people on this planet, and that number is increasing every day. Human beings come in an unlimited number of shapes, sizes, colors, creeds, etc. History is on the side of progress. In order to be a successful student/citizen in the 21st century it is important to be inclusive rather than exclusive.
